Week 3 (SCI 1101)

Laboratory: Go to the KSU website,   http://science.kennesaw.edu/biophys/gened/1101labs/ You’ll use this site for duration of the term. Click on Lab Schedule.  Here you will find the laboratory exercises. Follow the directions. This week we’ll do the exercise,  Experimental Analysis.

Your lab grade (25% of the class grade) will be based on a portfolio of lab worksheets submitted on the day of the final examination.

For this exercise, Experimental Analysis, follow the exercise directions. I recommend that you set up a folder and save hard copies of the completed required exercise analysis pages (for this experiment there are five (5) pages that you’ll submit).

Lecture: We’ll complete the lecture, Chemical Basis of Life, and begin the lecture, Organic Chemistry, Alkanes. Each lecture is accompanied by a study guide. Master these and finish reading chapter 4 in your text. We’ll l also view the two films listed on the Class Schedule.

Week 2 (SCI 1101)

We'll finish the introductory lecture of chemistry this week. Bring your World of Chemistry Study Guide to class too. Read chapter 1 in your text. Start preparing for test 1. Please also begin reading chapter 4 (updated: 8/17/2010 5:05 PM EST).

Week 1 (SCI 1101) Go to www.scribd.com/rkv and look in the Collections, Introduction and Unit 1. Download and save the following files: (1) SCI 1101 Schedule Fall 2010; (2) The World of Chemistry Video Guide Set; (3) Environmental Intro Study Guide; and (4) Environmental Sci Intro.

The World of Chemistry Video Guide Set will have video guides for six chemistry videos. In the guide you’ll find a link that will take you to answer keys for the episodes. During the first week, we’ll view two of the videos; the remaining episodes are schedule for latter in unit 1. Master the Environmental Intro Study Guide ASAP. The file, Environmental Sci Intro, is a PPP lecture file.
